Dangers of Drunk Driving

Total words: 456

Drunk driving. Risk your life and others and face the consequences or not take the chance? If your one of those who like to take risks hopefully I can change your mind of DWI, driving while intoxicated.

One of my best friends, Jordan, was a risk taker he would take the chance to have some fun. One night he took the chance of risking his life and his friend, Daniel. His girlfriend, April, called him and asked him to come over, Jordan was drunk his BAC, blood alcohol content, was way over the limit and on top of that he was only 15 years old. He was on his way there when him and Daniel decided to have some fun. Jordan was going over 110 mph and was swerving all over the road then he lost control of the truck. Daniel was lucky and survived with minor injuries unfortunately Jordan was thrown from the vehicle and killed on impact. Today his family and friends suffer from the loss and we will never be the same that is why I want you to know the effects and consequences of DWI.

Drunk driving is the act of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with alcohol. In the United States alone, 17,419 people died in 2002 in drunk driving collisions, representing 41 percent of total traffic deaths. Over 500,000 people were injured in 2001. The legal blood alcohol level in the united states is 0.08% only three states use the more lax once common standard of 0.10%. Many jurisdictions add extra penalties more jail time or a longer DUI program in cases where the driver's blood alcohol content is over 0.20%. An average person would have passed out from that much alcohol. To be able to drive at that level a person has to have gotten drunk regularly for years, to increase his or her intolerance.

Some affects of driving while intoxicated is erratic driving, poor coordination, or the presence or smell of alcohol. When pulled over due to suspicion of DWI the officer will administer a field sobriety tests. Some common tests are try to walk in a straight line heel to toe, or recite the alphabet. If the driver is brought to the police station he or she will be given chemical test.

Besides getting arrested, paying a fine, or losing your license you can also kill or injure yourself or someone else. Which can not only make that person suffer but also there family and friends. If it is a possibility please try to stop a drunk person from driving.

Think about it next time your drunk and you want to drive, think about the life or lives you can save, and always remember to think before you drink.
