Many products in the advertising world are presented through sensory appeal. People are generally attracted by an advertisment because it appeals to one of their five senses. Advertisers also utilize ethos, reaching out to the public's emotions, usually through sex appeal. Celebrities are usually paid to endorse a product, which also has emotional appeal because people try and identify with famous people. The three most effective methods of advertising are sensory appeal, celebrity endorsement, and se/emotional appeal.
For many perfume/cologne advertisements in magazines, advertisors put the scent of the product on the same page as the product. Advertisors usually use flaps that open or the consumer scratches something and smells it. Consumers will want to smell the product before they go out and buy it for themselves or someone else. By putting the scent right in the magazine it makes it more convenient for consumers because they can decide right there whether or not they like the smell of the product. The more convennient advertisors make it for their consumers, the more likely they are to sell the product. Advertisors will find many different ways to advertise their products.
Many advertisers will put a man's product in a women's magazine because it will appeal to them for a present for the opposite sex. When women see these kind of advertisement for cologne or other products they think right away of their husbands or boyfriends. Women will smell the cologne and they will automatically know if they like or dislike this product right away. Women don't actually take into consideration that cologne does have a different scent on different kinds of men because of different pheromones and hormonal reactions. Advertisers will also but a product for a woman in a man's magazine for the same reasons.
They make sure they use models that are very pretty and are well known celebrities. They used Andre Agassi in the one article to present a cologne for men. Andre Agassi is a famous tennis player, so the cologne will appeal more to athletes. They had also used Catherine Zeta Jones, an actress in this one advertisement for a woman's perfume. When women see her promoting this product they automatically think they have to buy this product because someone famous is presenting it. Most women do not stop and think though, because most of the celebrities usually do not actually wear the product for which they model.
The models are always very pretty and sexy, with nice bodies that most actual women would not look like. They usually dress the models to go with the perfume, the background, or the mood that it seems to be. The model that is dressed for the Ralph Lauren Blue perfume is dressed in all blue and they used a beach setting which is also blue. The actress model was dressed in a nice red dress. It appeared she was going to a formal. The advertisement was for Elizabeth Arden Red Door fragrance. The male model that is used for the Stetson Untamed cologne has no shirt on, he is built, and he is cute. Males look at this and think if they wear this cologne they will attract women because of the way the advertisement was set up. Then there was a male dressed sort of casual yet sexy with his shirt unbuttoned to sell Aramis Life cologne. The models' clothing style, color, their situation and how they were presented had to do with selling more of that certain product.
Consumers will never see a person in an advertisement that is ugly or not dressed in some kind of appealing outfit. Advertisers know if they were to put these kinds of things in there advertisements that no one would want to buy them. A consumer will never usually see a heavier person trying to sell certain products for an advertiser because that does not appeal to the American society now a days. People always see thin people in advertisements and that is not what everyone looks like or what they will look like if they buy a certain product. Advertisers only think about what people want to see, not what real people actually look like and dress like. They usually never tell the truth in there advertisements or otherwise people would never buy there products, all they want is the consumers money.
As people can see there are many different ways advertisers well present there products to make them sell. They use sex appeal the most to try to make there consumers buy the product. People look at advertisements and if they do not see one of the five senses then they will most likely just page right through it. When consumers see celebrities in an advertisement they automatically think that the product is high class and they have to have it right away. Many consumers that know a lot about advertisement recognize the most common methods of advertising.
